An actor, an activist… and me.

Do you share blood with famous ancestors?

Author Marzena Dzienniak · 14 January 2026

I always tell my clients: genealogy is the only journey where you never know who you will meet at the next stop. Sometimes we look for a humble farmer and find a story worthy of a screenplay.

Recently I decided to look at my own roots again, more carefully. And although I have uncovered hundreds of stories for others professionally, what I found in my own tree left me stunned.

When a name from the tree appears on screen

While browsing parish registers and joining distant branches, I suddenly stopped at one surname: Marek Obertyn. That voice, that charisma… as viewers we knew him from dozens of theatre and film roles (including Polish productions such as Ekstradycja 3, Prawo ojca, 07 zgłoś się, and Na kłopoty Bednarski) and from dubbing (Garfield, Harry Potter, and many more). It turned out that this outstanding actor was not only a figure on screen — he was my relative.

It is an extraordinary feeling to watch a film and realise: “We share roots.” Suddenly the history of cinema becomes part of my own story.

Na kłopoty… Bednarski (Polish TV series)

Marek Obertyn, known among other things from the series Na kłopoty Bednarski, turned out to be my relative.

Heroes from the encyclopaedia

But that was not the end. Searching further, I reached Antoni Pączek. He was not just a “name on paper.” Antoni was an independence activist, a member of parliament, someone who actively helped build a free Poland.

Reading his biography, I understood that the traits I value in myself — stubbornness, drive, a sense of mission — may run much deeper than I thought. These are no longer just birth and death dates. It is a kind of courage in my DNA.

Why I am telling you this

Antoni Pączek

Many of you write to me: “My family was ordinary; there is probably nobody interesting there.” Nothing could be further from the truth. My discovery proved once again that there are no “ordinary” families. Each of us is part of a saga. Perhaps you too share blood with someone who changed the world, made art, or fought for freedom — and the only thing between you and that knowledge is a few records not yet found.

Your turn for a great discovery

As a genealogist I do not only look for names. I look for stories, emotion, and evidence of where your talents or character come from. My job is to dust off your family history and see who really stands behind you.

Perhaps your great-grandfather was a local hero? Perhaps your aunt was a pioneer in her field? Perhaps a famous surname also hides in your tree, and no one ever told you?

You will not know until we check.

Let me use my experience and intuition to search the archives for you. I will build a tree you can be proud of — and that might be the biggest surprise of your life.

Write to me. Let us find out what your past is hiding.
